After living on the lake for a year, we finally got the kayak out and did some fishing.  The boys love to troll for anything that’s biting!  The lake is full of blue gill so we don’t go long without catching something. Ten was the haul for this day.  Boys and fish…a match made in heaven!

Fishing Gear at Basspro.com

Bass Pro Shops is having a sale dedicated to catfishing supplies.  Thefishicaught.com photo gallery has at least one member that is excellent at finding huge catfish. His photo of a 32 pound fish below is just one of many giants in the gallery. Check out both the gallery and the sale if your headed out for catfish anytime soon!catfish1

If you are the avid outdoorsy type, you have probably already heard of Sierra Trading Post.  It is a fantastic wholesale company that offers quality equipment for all outdoor activities at outlet prices. I enjoy their catalog because the variety of products is diverse and inexpensive.  Their fly fishing selection is small but very high quality. If you are in the market for anything new, I bet Sierra has it and I bet it is cheaper than other retailers.

Outdoor Life magazine has an interesting top 10 toughest fish story on its web page. It puts the Tuna at #1 and the Marlin at #2. Personally, I think I would rather catch a Tuna. It has always been one of my dreams to have enough Tuna steaks to last a year!

Field and Stream magazine has an article in the June edition that describes the jig as the world’s greatest lure.  Being versatile and adaptable to many fishing situations, they make a good case for the jig.  I am wondering if any of you have other suggestions for the title of world’s greatest lure? We should also consider what deserves the title of the world’s greatest fly. Send me your thoughts and a photo if you have one and I’ll put together a list of the suggestions.

Being that I am never completely dedicated to one particular method or approach to fishing, I say the “world’s greatest” title goes to whatever happens to be catching fish on the day!

This seems like a cool chance to win a boat.  I registered and played for about 30 minutes tonight.  The game is simple. It is also a little addicting.

The web site is www.takemefishing.org if you click on the the guy with the huge net, you can register and get started.

The following excerpt was taken from their About Us page.  It seems like a great organization.

The Take Me Fishing campaign is about capturing the excitement and the memories associated with boating and fishing. Through this campaign, RBFF utilizes a comprehensive approach to reach boaters and anglers of all ages and experience levels in order to help increase participation in boating and fishing and fulfill our mission. The campaign not only creates awareness, but also encourages anglers and boaters to take a step toward participation in a measurable way, like never before.

This Sailfish was caught by one of our Gallery Members while fishing off the coast of the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. The fish was released.  In my opinion, that is always an important part of going after big gamefish.  You can view more photos of Chris’s trip in the photo gallery.

A River Runs Through It is one my favorite books. Written by Norman MacLean, it is a story of two brothers, Montana, and flyfishing.  Robert Redford adapted the story to the big screen and the movie was good.  The book, as is often the case, is great. Bookbyte.com has the 25th Anniversery edition of A River Runs Through It for just $9.00.  The link below will take you to their web site.

Berkley’s website has a page dedicated to coupons and rebates.  Although there is a list of great offers, I think the best one is below.  If you purhase a Berkley rod for $24.95 or more, you are eligible to recieve a free Leatherman  Multitool. Other coupons include rebate offers on Gulp Alive baits and various Berkley lines.berkeley-coupon1
